Goggle and Facebook will and have bent to government pressure. VPN doesn't keep records on you. If you live in an outlying area, your VPN server will be in a large city, so your presence will be traced to the city, not to an outlying area you live in.

I use a VPN exclusively to skirt around georestricted content (I need my BBC test match commentary fix and there's no way to get it outside the UK). The privacy argument for it is basically nonexistent. Just use hardened firefox and be careful with your internet use.

Hey Sun, do you use Mullvad browser? And if you do, do you experience the issue of your you-tube videos not buffering at times and somehow seemingly stuck? I saw a reddit post about it but no solution thus far, was wondering if you knew a work around. Even when I disable and re-enable the VPN it's seemingly still stuck for some reason.

With the end of net neutrality, ISPs are slowly testing the waters on this. They will not admit to it and would use very carefully worded sentences to deny it.... Gaming: There is so much lag it's unplayable or the game server registers your ping as too high and won't even let you in. Turn on a VPN, even with a 10-15% reduction in overall speed, the game is playable with no lag or noticeable disruptions. They also at times force video to stream at SD quality, turn on the vpn, it immediately starts streaming in HD. It does occasionally happen where the decrease in speed by running through the vpn is causes issues which are resolved by turning off the vpn. There are plenty of decent vpns at very reasonable prices, even if it's something you only need to use occasionally, it's not a financial burden. I wouldn't pay $30 a month, but $34 for a year? I think it's worth it.

I've been censored on just about every sub. This is nothing more than some sort of site controlled by military/intelligence and AI bots to feed propaganda to people. You have to remember the US government has countless covert propaganda programs, and is the equivalent to the E German Stasi. Nothing that you have ever been taught or know comes from your own brain. It comes from propaganda masters in government and media. They are silencing anyone that they choose, which has always happened everywhere covertly. There has never been a free press or a democratic government in power. It's always been just as rigged as reddit. Before modern technology and internet existed, most common people didn't know how bad the censorship was. You had fake front groups like the ACLU on TV giving the illusion that they were protecting freespeech, but they weren't. You had MTV and Hollywood that would put smut on TV and claim to be fighting censorship, if anyone opposed it. You just chose to believe it and drink their kool aid. People refuse to believe it until it's put in front of their face. Big business and the wealthy elite has always been controlled everything and silencing who they choose.

The idea of using crypto for ANYTHING is uh... yeah. No thanks. Lots of companies have my credit card info anyways, so no point in worrying about it. As for latency... even using servers on the other side of the world hasn't caused much issue. I trust that a VPN might prevent my ISP from seeing what I'm doing, and it might keep less data on me than my ISP, but I don't trust a VPN to not sell my data or to not hand it over to the government. I don't trust any company or government to fully protect my information. I don't believe true privacy exists. Just hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and expect to land somewhere in between. I only trust a VPN to let me change my ip frequently and reduce the risks associated with using free wifi. It also makes me a little less nervous about researching questionable topics for writing stories. Tor moves so slow, it feels like I'm using dial up again. It's not useful for much unless you want to access the deep web.

I would do my research. This video is misinformation. I wouldn't use NordVPN, but you definetly need a VPN as much as possible to protect yourself against your ISP. True https encrypt the traffic between you and the server, but the ISP still knows where the traffic is going. It's proven that ISP sold that data.
